Ryan P. Garry
Ryan is a Criminal Law Specialist, certified by the Minnesota State Bar Association, and has developed a reputation as an accomplished trial attorney. Less than 3% of criminal defense attorneys in Minnesota have achieved this certification.
Nearly 100% of Ryan's practice since inception has been representing clients on cases ranging from DWI to Murder to major White Collar Crime. He has acquitted clients with not-guilty verdicts, orders to dismiss, hung juries, and declination of prosecution decisions in cases ranging from DWI to Murder. His most recent cases include acquittals in Felony Third Degree Assault, Felony First Degree Assault, Felony Domestic Assault Strangulation, and Aiding First Degree Murder and Controlled Substance in the First Degree.
Ryan practices in state and federal court, and has litigated a variety of federal cases including mail fraud, wire fraud, bank fraud, witness tampering, bank robbery, drug and narcotic conspiracy, and tax evasion. His current federal cases include the lead defendants on major federal indictments ranging from drug crimes to white collar offenses. The majority of Ryan's clients are referred from other lawyers, prosecutors who have litigated against him in trial, former presiding judges, and past clients.
Ryan frequently represents lawyers, doctors, police officers, professional athletes, and other professionals accused of crimes. He is often sought out on high-profile cases where the stakes are high. He is a board member of the Minnesota Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (MACDL) and the editor of the Challenger magazine. He is also a board member of the Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA) and a frequent speaker at Minnesota Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminars. Ryan has been named a Rising Star Superlawyer in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013, and was named a Superlawyer in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017.
Ryan is admitted to practice in the State of Minnesota, the federal District of Minnesota, and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has also handled cases in Wisconsin and in the federal district in Nebraska.
Elizabeth R. Duel
Elizabeth received her B.A. in Philosophy and Religion from St. Olaf College, graduating cum laude. Elizabeth then received her J.D. from University of St. Thomas School of Law. While at St. Thomas Law, Elizabeth was on Law Review and participated in the school’s peer mentor program. Elizabeth is still active at St. Olaf as a mentor through the St. Olaf Career Network, answering questions and providing advice regarding law school and the legal profession.
Elizabeth knew early in her legal career that she wanted to practice criminal defense. Prior to entering to law school, she interned at the Rice County Attorney’s Office. Since she began law school, 100% of her focus was criminal defense. Throughout law school she was involved with various organizations. She interned with Caplan & Tamburino Law Firm, P.A., she had a mentor at the Hennepin County Public Defender’s Office, she interned with the United States Federal Defender’s Office for the District of Minnesota, and she externed with the former Chief Judge of Hennepin County District Court Criminal Division.
Elizabeth has been named a Rising Star. She is admitted to practice in the State of Minnesota, the federal District of Minnesota, and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Outside of work, Elizabeth teaches violin and guitar and plays in multiple bands around Minneapolis.
Shelly L. Larson
In April of 2010, Shelly joined Ryan Garry as a Legal Assistant. An integral part of the office, Shelly speaks with clients, prosecutors, and judicial clerks on a daily basis, answering questions, juggling schedules, and filing court documents. The first friendly face you see when you enter the office, Shelly keeps everything running smoothly from the beginning to the end of the day.
