In the wake of the tragedy of the murder of George Floyd, our client was arrested and charged with a serious felony-level offense that required, if convicted, a five-year mandatory-minimum prison sentence. The charge revolved around the riots and destruction to several local businesses that were damaged due to the unrest. Ryan and Elizabeth litigated the case for nearly a year and a half, and today convinced the Judge to depart and vary downward to a sentence that included not a single day in jail. Our client, unlike most federal clients at sentencing, walked out of the courtroom with this family, rather than being escorted to prison by the United States Marshals.
