Ryan’s client was accused of First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct (the most serious degree) by his former girlfriend, whom he had been in a relationship for nearly 13 years. The potential charges, if convicted, would have resulted in a presumptive 12-year prison sentence.
Outside motivations by his girlfriend were the reason for the false accusations, and Ryan’s investigation into those motivations, and his argument to the reviewing prosecuting attorney resulted in a decision not to charge Ryan’s client.
